The long way home

A familiar street changes when you walk it at a different hour. Shop windows turn into mirrors, the bakery starts its morning shift, and the city briefly belongs to people moving without a hurry.

Taking an extra ten minutes to get home is a small habit, but it leaves room for noticing things that usually disappear between destinations.

A notebook that travels well

The best notebook is the one that is already in your pocket. Mine has a soft cover, a bent corner, and more lists than finished thoughts. It holds street names, sketches of doorways, and the occasional sentence worth keeping.

Paper asks very little: a pen, a moment, and permission to leave a thought unfinished.

Making room for the morning

A clear table, an open window, and coffee made slowly. A useful morning routine does not have to be elaborate. Sometimes it is simply a few quiet minutes before the day begins to ask for things.
